 Description  « Hide
Given that the WIki is designed to be used by people with no HTML experience, I still don't think the editing UI is right.

I suggest the following changes

h1 - replies on understanding HTML - replace with 'heading'
h3 - replies on understanding HTML - replace with 'sub-heading'
'external link' - relies on understanding what internal and external are - replace with 'link to website'
'resource link' - could be significantly improved - replace with 'attach a file'
'resource embed' - who understands what embed means? - replace with 'include a picture'
'table' - move this to the end because I don't think it actually works all that well and is less useful than the rest!
'h2' - drop this to make room because it is described on the right if they really want it

See my screenshot

Just to be clear,

This isnt a change to the markup, its a change to the Help Page on the editing and the toolbar at the top of the edit box ?

Is that correct ?

Ian

yes, that's right.

I've had a look at the existing interface and noticed that multi-word clickable phrases are a bit misleading already (see "full link") in the current interface.

Harriet's screen shot looks fine but is that really how it would come out in the browser? If these can be made to look more like buttons not only will that help people realise they're clickable but it will also help make it clearer which words belong with each other. This is the same thinking behind preferring underlines for ordinary links. Witness the way JIRA iself manages the same situation, underlining *and* extra space between clickable actions. If underlining is out (or is skinned away) then perhaps some type of delimiter is in order?

Maybe the links should be rendered as buttons, so its more like the HTML editors ?

Generally agree that buttons might be clearer and that some terms rely on previous experience of html, but I still like 'external link' (reasonable assumption that people understand internal/external) and 'resource link' (because it refers to resources area). Table is popular with quite a few of my users!

Hmmm - yes. I was going to say that my problem with external link is that people are confused as to whether it's external to CamTools or external to the wiki, but I suppose it doesn't make any difference, so that makes sense.

I still don't like Resource Link because it isn't actually good English - Link to Resource is one thing, but Resource Link is another! And suppose you haven't got a Resource tool in your site? Attach a file makes instant sense, I think.

Like the idea of the buttons
