Affects Version/s: 2.4.x
Fix Version/s: None

Time Tracking:
Not Specified

Environment: Windows XP, JAWS 8.0, Internet Explorer 6
Issue Links:
Cloners

2.4.x Status: None
2.5.x Status: None
2.6.x Status: None

 Description  « Hide
Problem:

The FCK-Editor menus are not accessible.

Desired Behaviors:

Menu graphics should be properly labeled so that a JAWS user can understand their function.

Recommended Repairs:

Since there is a limited amount of bandwidth to revise the FCK Editor, I recommend that 1) it be replaced by TinyMCE which has been made accessible in version 2.0 with the assistance of the ATRC at University of Toronto (see details at: http://wiki.moxiecode.com/index.php/TinyMCE:Accessibility) or 2) users be given the option of using it in place of FCK.

Joe, you've listed Mailtool as an affected component for this issue, but that doesn't seem to match your description. Is it just a typo?

I'm not totally sure because I was really adding this for someone else. I know that the problem was in the mailtool body edit box. Whether it was the FCK editor I'm not sure. That is what my coworker thought was the editor being used.

The FCK editor presentation items, like the B graphic for bold, don't have alt tags, so someone using a screen reader will not be able to style their text.

I found documentation that confirmed that the revisions recommended by the ATRC have been included in the latest version. Moreover, as an open source product with the LGPL license (http://wiki.moxiecode.com/index.php/TinyMCE:License) it should be compatible with Sakai's requirements.
