See ~~SAK-7670~~ for full details. This issue tracks a temporary fix, intended for Sakai 2.5.0 that includes item availability dates in the notification email. The issue of the email being sent when the item is posted, rather than when it becomes available still exists, but hopefully can be fully addressed shortly.

Carl, I've moved the patch from ~~SAK-7670~~ to here so that we can track this temporary fix separetely from the more complete fix your still working on there.

The patch provided by Carl Hall has been applied to trunk. This should be merged to 2.5.x and (if possible) 2.4.x.

for the vendor drop that was applied to our server on april 17, 2008, R45460, this still failed for both the QA people. adding a file to the resources directory with a release date in the future did "grey out" the title. however, an e-mail went out immediately and the file was accessible from the link in the e-mail.

This JIRA only addressed the language in the outgoing email, not the timing of the email, as the bigger, better fix (~~SAK-7670~~) took much longer to implement (see http://jira.sakaiproject.org/jira/browse/SAK-7670). The patch for ~~SAK-7670~~ was just brought into trunk this week.

2.5.0 QA has been completed. Unfortunately, there were not resources available to specifically test this issue. If you find this to still be a problem in the latest release (at this point 2.5.2), please reopen the JIRA and add the latest affects version.
