        Notes from discussion on 9/28:

What is the purpose of the Item pull down menu

        - Allow to overwrite and existing grade item in the gradebook that is not part of the import file?

-- So the drop down menu contains grade items that are in the gradebook but not in the import file

        - When the user access the GB2 for the first time, should the gradebook be fully initialized using the default values

        - Don't show save and save/close button on gradebook/category/item setup if edit is not dirty

        - Consistent ordering and placement of buttons e.g. cancel, close, save, etc.

        -- Screen aware of size

-- Defaults should work when user just hits return

So we have questions for David/Fernando.

sent the following as an email to get some questions asked answered:

The programmers have recently discussed the import revamp, and we have a couple of questions for you guys:

1a) What is the purpose of the Item Pull Down Menu?

1b) What should be put in the Item Pull Down Menu, a list of all items in the gradebook? All items in the gradebook + all items in the import file? Or all items in the gradebook file minus the ones in the import file?

1c) What business rules around having multiple items with the same name in the various pull downs? What specifically should we do if a user puts the item name "X" in two rows in the item list?

So besides the questions answered, we need some next steps.

The import process will be driven mainly from the data, which will come from the UI.

We need to at least roughly mock up the wizard, and then from there, use that to determine the design and any changes to the code to support that design. Also, from the rough mockups, we would need to estimate the amount of time to build the actual screens.

This would allow the grader to select existing item names. Of course as of now that is not possible, but it should be (it is a request high up on my wish list).

1b) What should be put in the Item Pull Down Menu, a list of all items in the gradebook? All items in the gradebook + all items in the import file? Or all items in the gradebook file minus the ones in the import file?
All items in the gradebook file minus the ones in the import file

1c) What business rules around having multiple items with the same name in the various pull downs? What specifically should we do if a user puts the item name "X" in two rows in the item list?
If I understand this correctly, in a no cat gb, once an item name is selected it cannot be used. For a cat/wt cat gb, it may be best to first allow graders to select a cat 1st and then choose item names?

        Sent clarification question:

When you say it cannot be used, what do you want it to do if the user tries to do so? Any specific error message/behaviour?

As part of this work, we will re-enable percentage/letter grade gradebooks. I'm basis this because the Google Doc shows type of grade being imported.

We have to make sure that we address export as well. I have changed the title respectively.

Over the past couple of weeks I have drawn up a series of design documents and have sent them out for review. Once that's complete I'll make them public and put them in this JIRA.

can we close this yet? GRBK-401 can live on its own and I am not sure GRBK-1063 has much relevancy since it looks lie we are choosing the no icons route.

closing ... remaining issues are GRBK-401 which can live on and the issue about choosing an icon set for the Wizard, which we may never do
