When you download grades with the intent of uploading them to the Registrar (in our case, Wolverine Access), it would be very, very useful if the data structure matched. Currently, the Course Grades export cannot be imported into Wolverine Access without 1) deleting the header row, and 2) removing the Lastname, Firstname column BETWEEN the uniqname and grade. This means that you have to either open the csv in Excel to modify it or simply manually report grades in Wolverine Access. I think it used to export from CTools in the correct format, but definitely not now.

It seems like we are introducing a significant opportunity for error by making instructors modify the file before importing the data. Not to mention the fact that gives the appearance that the right hand and the left hand don't know how to play nicely together.

I imagine in a perfect world, the Export button/link would send you to a page where you could select the format you wanted, with the default being set by the local institution. Some text at the top of the page might say something to the effect of "The default settings below match the file format required to report grades to <Wolverine Access>. You can change the settings to export a variation of the course grade data.

      Data to include:

      [ √ ] Username

      [ ] Lastname, Firstname

      [ ] Final Score

      [ √ ] Course Grade

      Include header row:

      ( ) Yes

      ( o ) No

      File format:

      ( o ) .csv

      ( ) Excel

      [ Cancel ] [ Export ]

My thought is that some departments may want instructors to hand in a copy, or the instructor may want to save off a copy somewhere else-- how revolutionary! In either case, including Lastname, Firstname is totally appropriate. As is a header row.

Since this is the ONLY PLACE to download letter grades and override final scores, they need the ability to downloading all the data visible on the page (user, first name, last name, final score, and final grade); but the default should be only what they need for what they are most likely to do (upload to the local Registrar) .
