      Description

It should be possible to select these boxes independently of each other:

      1. Release Item to Students?
      2. Include item in course grade calculations?

      Why?
Use Case, " I teach a large lab (8 sections/`300 students) with mostly freshman for whom I need to report midterm grades (deficient or not).

I give a MidTerm exam and do use it to calculate the MT letter grade that is uploaded to the Registrar's grade entry tool by Monday of fall break.

And, I miss the option (which was available in GB2) of doing what I needed to do (that is calculating numerical grades, assessing MT scores across the 8 lab sections and comparing section scores--as sections taught by 8 different Graduate TAs and finalizing course letter grade splits (letter grades reported in the MT grade reports), without having my students see their MT exam grades before break. They can't see their MT letter grade till it is released during break anyways. They will learn their grades soon (both exam and course). In my experience, they do not need this info and stress at this point. This is their first midterm period and I feel they need to focus on finishing up during that last week of classes before break. They will know soon enough. I can talk to them when we review the exam and their performance after break.

I do release their MT test scores in Sakai and associated stats once I have checked over everything. This release usually corresponds to the same time that the MT grade reports roll over from the Registrar and are available for students in InsideND. Then they can see their MT letter grade as well as the MT exam.

Note that students are not privy to Sakai course letter grade calculations during the semester (but instructors, including GTAs) are. I appreciate that functionality was not lost.
