      Testing topic grading view

      1. Create a site that has both Gradebook and Forums, and add one or more students.
      2. Navigate to Gradebook.
      3. Add a new gradebook item with the title “D1” (for “Discussion 1”) worth 10 points.
      4. Navigate to Forums.
      5. Click “New Topic” associated with the default forum.
      6. Give the topic a title “D1”.
      7. Scroll down to the “Gradebook item” dropdown menu and select the gradebook item “D1”.
      8. Click “Save”.
      9. On the default view of Forums, click “More” and then “Grade” for the topic “D1”.
      10. Note that because a gradebook item was associated with this topic in the previous steps, this grading view should (a) display the gradebook item in the dropdown menu in the top right corner and (b) a column of text fields the gradebook item should be displayed ready for the entry of grades. The bug manifests by not recognizing that the topic is already associated with a gradebook item and displays a view like  TopicGradingViewMissingGradebookItem.png.

      Testing forum grading view

      1. Create a site that has both Gradebook and Forums, and add one or more students.
      2. Navigate to Gradebook.
      3. Add a new gradebook item with the title “Some Forum” (for “Discussion 1”) worth 10 points.
      4. Navigate to Forums.
      5. Click the “New Forum” tab.
      6. Give the forum a title “Some Forum”.
      7. Scroll down to the “Gradebook item” dropdown menu and select the gradebook item “Some Forum”.
      8. Click “Save Settings & Add Topic”.
      9. Give the topic a title “Some Topic”.
      10. Click “Save”.
      11. On the default view of Forums, click “More” and then “Grade” for the forum “Some Forum”.
      12. Note that because a gradebook item was associated with this forum in the previous steps, this grading view should (a) display the gradebook item in the dropdown menu in the top right corner and (b) a column of text fields the gradebook item should be displayed ready for the entry of grades. The bug manifests by not recognizing that the forum is already associated with a gradebook item, where neither (a) nor (b) are evident.
      13. Return to the default view of the Forums tool.
      14. Click “More” and then “Grade” for the topic “Some Topic”.
      15. Because the topic should inherit gradebook associated with the forum, this grading view should likewise (a) display the gradebook item in the dropdown menu in the top right corner and (b) a column of text fields the gradebook item should be displayed ready for the entry of grades. Thus the bug further manifests by also not propagating the forum’s gradebook item to the topics it contains (assuming the topic settings are not overriding the inherited gradebook item).

      Description

When a gradebook item is associated with a topic or forum in the Forums tool, such as through Topic Settings or Forum Settings, the grading view for that topic or forum does not recognize the associated gradebook item.

For instance to focus on how this bug is expressed for a topic, the problem is depicted in TopicGradingViewMissingGradebookItem.png for a topic that should display its associated gradebook item in the dropdown menu in the top right corner. Furthermore, if the gradebook item was appropriately recognized, the grading view should display a column of text fields for the gradebook item, ready for an instructor to enter grades. That view would look like TopicGradingView_ExpectedView.png.

This bug is evident on the nightly server for trunk/master/13.x and the 12.x branches. (This bug is not evident for the 11.x branch.) The Test Plan describes how to reproduce this bug for both topics and forums in the Forums tool.
