If student content is added to a Lessons page, with the option 'Student pages will be associated with groups rather than individuals.', and no groups are selected, then all groups will be selected. If there are students not associated with any group, they will see a "Add Your Own Page" link, but upon clicking that link, they receive the following message:
"Student pages are associated with groups, but you're not in any allowable group. Please report this to your instructor."
Even if groups are specifically selected, the user not in a group still receives the link to add their own page.
I believe that if specific groups have been selected, or no groups selected (which would select all then), an individual not belonging to any group should not see the 'Add Your Own Page' link.
(Need a site with groups and at least 1 student not belonging to any group)
As the instructor, add Student Content to a Lessons page
Select 'Student pages will be associated with groups rather than individuals' and select the desired group(s)
(Not selecting any should use all groups)
As a student in a group, click on Add Your Own Page and add it
As a student not in any group click on Add Your Own Page
Message displays: "Student pages are associated with groups, but you're not in any allowable group. Please report this to your instructor."
