Some icons in Gradebook spreadsheet are too light to meet accessibility standards

      Hide
      1. In a site with several students, Gradebook, and another tool that sends grades to GB (e.g. Tests & Quizzes), add a few gradebook items.
      2. Leave at least one gradebook item hidden from students, and at least one not included in the course grade.
      3. Add a grade and a comment for at least one student.
      4. Add an item in another tool that sends to GB (e.g. publish a quiz with at least one question where in the settings, you select Grading and Feedback > Send assessment score to Gradebook immediately).
      5. Go to Gradebook and look for the following icons:
        • down arrows in each cell to edit
        • eyeball with a slash for item hidden from students
        • calculator with a slash for item not included in course grade
        • lock icons for item coming from external tool
        • comments speech bubble
      6. Inspect each icon and the background color behind it to get the hex values of each.
      7. Plug in the hex values to https://webaim.org/resources/contrastchecker/ and make sure all pass WCAG AAA for normal text.

      Description

      Icons in gradebook are too light.

      The Gradebook icons (eye with slash, calculator, lock, down arrow) are too light to meet WCAG requirements.

       

      The current colors are the following (which background depends on the row in the table):
      Icons: #DDDDDD and #999999
      Backgrounds: #F9F9F9, #F6F6F6, #FFFFFF

      Icon color should be darkened to at least #545454 for all icons.
