When grading an assignment and more than the max allowed is entered, the score should be removed

    Details

    • Test Plan:
      Hide
      • Create an assignment worth 25 points and select to send it to the gradebook
      • Grade the assignment, entering more than the 25 points
      • Click save and release
      • Error message displays:

Alert: Grade entered '30' is larger than the maximum grade allowed '25.00'. Please make a correction or click the original button again to save the entered value '30'.

Expected behavior: the score should be removed (null) and the assignment considered ungraded. Remove the last part of the error message "or click the original button again to save the entered value '30'"

If the expected behavior is that the instructor can actually give more than the max points, then the score should not be 0.30

      Description

When the instructor grades an assignment and enters more than the max points allowed, an error message is displayed (which is expected), but the score turns into a decimal. I would expect the score to be removed since it is not valid.

The score is not passed to the gradebook initially when the instructor hits save, so the instructor can change the score after seeing the message, but the message is incorrect.

Alert: Grade entered '30' is larger than the maximum grade allowed '25.00'. Please make a correction or click the original button again to save the entered value '30'.

The entered value displays as 0.30, not 30, and even if the instructor enters 30 again and hits save, it is the 0.30 that gets saved.

Since the max allowed is 25, I believe the score should be removed (null) and force the instructor to enter a valid score or consider the assignment ungraded and the last part of the message should be removed.

If the intention is to allow instructors to give more than the max points, the points should not convert to 0.30
