      1. Create a gradebook with categories.
      2. Add a few items to each category. In one category, make sure all the items have the same point value. In another category, add items with different point values.
      3. Go to Settings > Categories and Weighting.
      4. Select Drop Highest, Drop Lowest, and Keep Highest.
      5. For the category with the items that have the same point value:
        • Confirm you can enter a number in Drop Highest and when you do, Keep Highest is disabled with the message 'Drop highest' / 'Drop lowest' cannot be used in the same category with 'keep Highest'.
        • Confirm you can enter a number in Drop Lowest and Keep Highest is still disabled
        • Enter 0 for the Drop Highest box and confirm that Keep Highest is still disabled with the same message.
        • Enter 0 for Drop Lowest and confirm you can now type in the Keep Highest box. Enter a number for Keep Highest and confirm that the two Drop options are disabled with the same error message.
      6. For the category with the items that have different point values, the boxes to type in should be disabled and you should be warned that your items need to have the same point value.
      7. Save changes and go back to the Grades page.
      8. Edit the item with the different point value to make it the same as other items in its category.
      9. Go back to Settings and confirm you can now use Drop/Keep options for that category.

NOTE: keep in mind the bug reported in SAK-40799, which is unrelated to the messaging changes proposed in this ticket.

      Description

If you enable Drop/Keep highest/lowest grades for a category and the category contains items with different point values, the field to enter a number to drop/keep on the Settings page is correctly disabled. However, attempting to mouse over the disabled field, the error message is incorrect and misleading:

'Drop highest' / 'Drop lowest' cannot be used in the same category with 'keep Highest'.

The same error is displayed regardless of which of the three options you want to enable.

The correct behavior for a category with items having different point values would be to warn you that your category needs to have items with the same point value to drop/keep.
