      1. In a site with at least one student, create a gradebook with Categories only. Add at least one category. (if adding only one for simplicity, it will be worth 100% of the total grade).
      2. Create a couple gradebook items in the category(s).
      • Give both items a max value of 10 points.
      • Make sure both items are assigned to the category you created.
      • Make sure both items are Released to students and Included in the Grade.
      1. Enter student grades for each item directly in the spreadsheet. Give student 10 points for first grade item, 8 points for the second.
      2. Edit the first grade item and uncheck the option "Release item to students." Make sure "Include item in course grade" is still checked and save changes.
(FWIW, this issue will happen whether you've hidden the grade item after entering the scores or before.)

      Expected behavior:
      A. Instructor:

      • Grade item 1 has crossed-out eye icon (with score of 10) but is still impacting student score
      • Grade item 2 (8) impacting score
      • Calculated course grade score is 90% or 18/20 pts.
      • Category roll-up column should also display that average for student is 90%.

      B. Student:

      • Grade item 1 (10) score does not dislay.
      • Grade item 2 (8) does display
      • Category roll-up displays (a probably confusing) percentage of 90% for the category even though I only see a single score of 8/10. (We may need a disclamer for student screen to account for why their category average may not match visible scores.)

      Actual behavior:

      • Calculated course grade is displaying correctly at 90%
      • Category roll-up column is showing student score as 80%. Category roll-up is not accounting for the hidden 10 point score.
      • View for instructor and student has same percentage.

      Description

Including a grade item in the course grade calculation but hiding that item from students reveals a math display error in the Category roll-up display.

This can be seen with a simple gradebook set-up (Categories only) but should also be tested with a more complex set-up (involving Weighted Categories).

Note that the actual course grade math still appears to be accurate - it's only the display for the category roll-up that is inaccurate.
