    Details

    • Type: Bug
    • Status: RESOLVED
    • Priority: Major
    • Resolution: Fixed
    • Affects Version/s: 12.7, 19.3, 20.0 [Tentative]
    • Fix Version/s: 20.0 [Tentative]
    • Component/s: Assignments, Turnitin
    • Labels:
      None
    • Environment:
      Sakai must be configured to use Turnitin and the following property should also be set:

      turnitin.forceSingleAttachment=true
    • Test Plan:
      Hide

      Note: The nightly servers are not configured to integrate with Turnitin. Testing of this bug needs to occur on other instances of Sakai where Turnitin is available.

      1. Create a course site with the Assignments tool on an instance of Sakai that is configured to use Turnitin.
      2. As an instructor, navigate to the Assignments tool.
      3. Click Add.
      4. Enter “Asn 1” for the title.
      5. Enter “Prompt” for the “Assignment Instructions”.
      6. Check the checkbox labeled “Use Turnitin”. Note that after doing so the Submission Type is set to “Single Uploaded File only” and that no other options can be selected. This behavior is an ideal safeguard to be noted for step 9 below.
      7. Click Post. Assuming Sakai and Turnitin are integrated correctly, this should return the instructor to the assignments list with “Asn 1” listed accompanied by a red badge whose tool tip indicates that “Originality of submissions will be verified by Turnitin”.
      8. Click the Edit link associated with “Asn 1”.
      9. Scroll down to the Submission Type and open its dropdown menu. Note if types other than “Single Uploaded File only” can be selected despite having previously checked the “Use Turnitin” checkbox. If other submission types can be selected, one expression of this bug is manifest.
      10. Select “Attachments only” for Submission Type and scroll down to click “Post”. If the instructor is permitted to successfully edit the Turnitin assignment to use a submission type other than “Single Uploaded File only”, then another expression of this bug is manifest.

      Description

      This bug pertains to instances of Sakai configured to use Turnitin.

      A safeguard is needed for assignments that use Turnitin where the Submission Type must be forced to be “Single Uploaded File only”, especially if the following property from SAK-23592 is turned on (set to true):

      turnitin.forceSingleAttachment=true

      This enforcement is successfully applied only when an assignment that uses Turnitin is newly created. When such an assignment is subsequently edited, this enforcement is absent. The Test Plan provides more details about how this bug is expressed.
