      1. As instructor, create an assignment with default settings and Open date of Now.
      2. As student, access the assignment. Confirm that the progress bar's presence is announced to the screen reader user, and it's clear that the current status is NOT any of the three statuses visible to sighted users in the bar.
      3. Enter some text in the box and Save Draft. Confirm that the progress bar status is announced to the screen reader as Draft - in progress.
      4. Go back into the assignment and Submit. Confirm that the progress bar status is announced correctly.
      5. As instructor, go to the Grade page for the assignment. Enter a grade for the student and Save and Release to Student.
      6. As student, access the assignment. Confirm that the progress bar indicates the assignment has been returned.

      Description

Taken from Laura's comment on SAK-41821:

      1. Accessibility testing needed to include contrast of progress bar. The new progress bar has oscillating colors, the animation of which cannot be stopped or hidden if a user finds the bar distracting or it triggers other issues related to motion or color sensitivity (another accessibility issue). (Article with a good explanation of motion accessibility issues.)

      Comment from Tiffany on SAK-41821:

      1. Color contrast - the contrast between text color and the background color of the progress bar does not currently meet minimum contrast requirements.
      2. Animation should be disabled.
      3. Progress bar information should be readable with a screen reader.
      • Note: A Not Started status, which does display to students in the Status: line might be needed for screen reader users so they know what the progress bar is indicating before they save something.
