In a site with Forums/Discussions and at least one forum and topic:

      1. Go to Site Info -> Date Manager
      2. Expand the Discussions section
      3. Above the Title/Open Date/Close Date, there should be a message that informs users that these dates can only be set if the forum or topic is not set to be displayed immediately.

    Description

In the Date Manager, you can see the dates for the forums and topics in the class. However, if the forum/topic is set to "Show immediately", the dates in the Date Manager are greyed out. This can cause some confusion for instructors who want to set dates.

The forum/topic dates can only be changed via Date Manager if the forum or topic is set to specify dates to open and/or close.

I suggest adding a line of text to that effect in the date manger under the Forums/Discussions heading.
