    Description

Over the years we've received feedback that instructors routinely misinterpret the intention of the "Email Notification" function at the bottom of the form when adding/editing resources. It seems common for instructors to think that this is a setting that should be persisted when they save, and they are consistently frustrated and confused when they go back to the resource and their previous selection for the drop down is seemingly not saved.

In reality, this was never something that was supposed to be persisted with the resource itself. It's simply intended as a setting related to the save/update operation, asking the user who should be notified about the changes. This is similar to how in Confluence there is a checkbox allowing you to opt-out of notifying watchers about the modification you made.

There are some visual cues to indicate that the drop down is paired with the buttons and not the rest of the form (a horizontal rule), however that clearly gets missed quite easily.

We decided to attempt to make this distinction more obvious by:

      • moving the notification controls inline with buttons (drop down with options in Resources, checkbox in Drop Box)
      • change the label to read: "Email notification for this update:"
      • added aria-label and tool-tip on the drop down: "Notify participants that this resource has been updated?"

These changes should be applied to both Resources and Drop Box.
