      Description

A specification needs to be developed for a uniform calendar widget for picking date-time in Sakai tools. A completely uniform solution may not be feasible, however, as different presentation technologies (e.g., JSF, Velocity, RSF) impose different limitations on the implementation of the UI. This effort should, therefore, include guidelines for adapting any uniform spec to the limitations of the different presentation technologies.

Currenlty Sakai tools such as Schedule, Assignments, OSP, Tests & Quizzes (Samigo), and Section Info all use a different approach. The attached document points out some of the differences in how the calendar widget works in these tools.

It might be worthwhile requiring the use of a "uniform" Sakai calendar widget for Provisional Tool status, once one exists.

The spec should also provide support of basing the date format on the user's locale, as selected in Preferences (which can impact both format and what the first day of the week is, e.g., SAK-8128), only valid dates should be presented (e.g., no leap-days in non-leap-years, no September 31st), and when selecting a date range it should be possible to enforce the hiding or graying out of inappropriate options for the end time based on the start time settings (e.g., SAK-12373)
